I wrote in my earlier blog about the decline of Rafa Nadal aka thong pulling spainiard. Its been such a welcoming change to see Rafa losing and all credit to Soderling from Sweeded. It is not the first time that Soderling dominated Rafa. He did come close to beat him during wimbledon 2 years ago and so rightly mocked at him for pulling his thongs. As I said before as well that someone is there who is sorting Rafa's game out, it is the same process Dhoni and his team deployed during the decoding of Ajantha Mendis's mystery balls.
Soderling dominated him from the start of the match and has now become the first player to beat him on the red soil of Roland Garros. He kept playing forehand and backhand to Nadal and his service percentages were tremendous. I think its all about self belief and Soderling had that in him for plenty today. The guy kept playing without pressure in the whole match and that paid the dividends. Last year, when I watched the match between Nadal and Federer during wimbledon, Federer has come back well in that match after losing the first 2 sets but after that Nadal played some unbelievable shots which practically stopped Federer's thought process and the subsequent loss of the match.
The intensity of today's match can be gauged from the fact that the players box was full, there was utter silence in Roland Garros inside and outside the court under the big screens. I am not a big fan of Nadal but he does provide good entertainment in the way he plays. Lets see who we are going to get as a champion now!.
I would love to see Federer winning here but I think he faces tough competition from Andy. I dont think Soderling will be able to repeat his performance as they say : lightining does not strike twice...
