I was going to write an article on Australian open tennis and then I cam across the news of Abhinav Bindra who because of some egoistic govt official will not be able to take part in commonwealth and world championships. This is a serious blow, firstly we hardly have medal winning soprtsperson and secondly we have meted out this treatment to the one who has won our first individual gold medal in the history of olympics.
Few days ago, I read on one of these blogs that being good in sport reflects the power of a country in the world arena. When Soviet Union and US of A were winning medals in plenty at olympics, they were the 2 supreme powers in the world and now with the rise og Chinese supremacy it is apparent that they are becoming one of the powerhouses of world economy.
To add to this insult we just had hockey fiasco hardly a week ago. We used to be the champions in world hockey but thanks to nepotism which is evident in every walk of our life as Indians that we finished last in olympics and world cups and then we even failed to qualify for olympics. I do not think there is dearth of talent only thing which mars Indian sport is nepotism, lack of facilities and lack of political will.
I just hope that as a true Indian someday all these things will get sorted out and we will produce more champions and just not in cricket. Cmon India chak de......
